One Year Ago on PH8: Waivers (and Links too!)

One year ago to the day, Jarrod Washburn had been claimed off of waivers, and everyone was scrambling to find out which team had placed the claim.  Could it have been the Cardinals?

He wound up staying with the Mariners when they pulled him back, only to ship him off to the Tigers this season.

That wasn’t the best thing to come out of our post that day though.  This was:

The following day, last year, we wrote about the impact Jaime Garcia was having on the 2008 season, and perhaps beyond…

Kudos as well to Jaime Garcia – this kid is showing a lot of moxie in an ever-changing role with the Cardinals.  I think I’m going to enjoy seeing him in a full-time rotation spot with the 2009 version of this club.

Obviously, it’s a bit later than expected after Garcia had Tommy John surgery, but Derrick Goold tells us today that Garcia may yet make it back to help this season.

In case you hadn’t heard, Albert Pujols squared off in a home run derby last night with Shaquille O’Neal that was supposed to be closed off to the media, because it’s for Shaq’s new reality show.  Well, they didn’t manage to keep Bryan Burwell out

Remember the Cards’ train ride from DC to Philly earlier in the season?  Midwest High Speed Rail addressed that exact ride and what it could mean for sports teams to have high speed trains interconnecting the country.  Interesting to think about, at least.

National media (well, ok, USA Today) is starting to pick up on the fact that this Cards team might be pretty decent, and a bit of a threat the remainder of the season…
